One of the interesting things about our favorite “experiment” is when an unexpected couple pairs up. This is the case of Stephen and Monica from Love Is Blind season 7.
Does that mean, though, that love is truly “blind,” and that by going for someone completely different these two will find everlasting love? We aren’t sure quite yet. Here’s everything we know about the couple and where their relationship stands today.
Who are Stephen and Monica from Love Is Blind?
Monica Davis is a 37-year-old sales executive who works in the education technology industry. As she explains in the pods, Monica totally kills it at work but came to the “experiment” because she hadn’t had as much success in her personal life.
She hoped that by focusing on getting to know a partner on a personal level first, she could avoided judging a book by its cover, as she said she tended to go for the physical first in relationships. According to her Instagram, she also does a lot of traveling.
Stephen Richardson is a 34-year-old electrician who also served in the Marines. As he told Monica in the pods, he had always thought that his father was Italian. However, as an adult he took an Ancestry.com test, and found out that his father was half-Black.
After learning he was actually about a quarter Black, Stephen has enjoyed researching the cultures of his ancestry and learning more about his background. According to Instagram, he also has a rather sweet hobby of painting military figurines.
What went down on the show?
In the pods, Stephan and Monica bonded right away. She said she was trying to completely open herself up to men and “types” that she had never gravitated toward before, and felt an immediate connection with him. This was despite the fact that he was not her usual “type,” as he did not go to a four-year college and works as an electrician.
One moment that the couple really bonded over was when Stephen shared the story of learning he was part Black. Monica, who is mixed race with Honduran and Black ancestry, was visibly moved by his commitment to understanding his roots. “You’re incredibly sweet, you’re just such a good guy,” she told him, and he responded that he was falling for her too.
After that, these lovebirds’ bond just continued to grow. They cried together, told each other they loved each other, and Stephen proposed. Once they met, the couple was ecstatic. “I’m engaged to a hot, sweet man,” gushed Monica. Stephen was similarly sprung: “That girl is everything, and I’m about to marry her.”
Once in Mexico, the couple seemed to be getting along great, but in the last few moments of episode 6 things started to fray a bit. Monica said she had been getting annoyed that she “couldn’t get a word” in” with the perpetually chatty Stephen. “You have to share the space, seriously,” she said.
