Another Simple Favor's Ending, Explained

Charity, Hope and Faith’s third sister, is actually alive and an accomplice to Aunt Linda, who stole her at birth. Everyone thought she was dead because Linda took her right after she was born, and Margaret McLanden (Emily’s mother) said that she was born dead and she cremated the baby right away.

Margaret (Elizabeth Perkins) is both an addict and extremely religious. She believes that her two daughters are demonic and would have strangled her third sister in the womb with the umbilical cord. When her husband abused Faith and Hope, she looked the other way.

Charity grew up with her aunt Linda—and was used by her to fleece rich people and then brutally murder them. She had no human contact, which is why she has a disturbed view of the world. She is also played by Blake Lively, but with a baby voice and wide eyes.

Who is Dante and why is he marrying Emily?

Emily met Dante (Michele Morrone) in Rome after she fled her family in her youth, and they became friends. Dante confessed to her that he is gay and in a relationship with Matteo Bartolo (Lorenzo de Moor), a member of the rival mafia family.

As a good friend of his, Emily agrees to fake a relationship with him in order to protect him. However, when the press gets too close to Emily (remember, she’s on the run from her family), she disappears.

Dante then sees her on the news years later and got in touch again. By marrying Emily, he could publicly present himself as heterosexual, while at the same time ensuring peace between the Bartolo and Versano families and secretly continuing his affair with Matteo. It is just as lucrative for Emily; she is free to continue wearing her extravagant designer clothes.

What was Linda’s plan?

Portia Versano, Dante’s mother, actually has no desire for Emily to marry into the family. So she probably used her contacts within the mafia to find some dirt from her past. And she certainly found some with Emily. That’s probably why she contacted Margaret and Linda to invite them to the wedding, and just hoped chaos would ensue.

Linda probably found out about the husband after the invitation and realized that he’s quite rich. She comes up with a plan—and also a plan B in case the first one goes wrong. Plan A simply involves blackmailing Emily so that she can retire. But Emily doesn’t go for that. So it’s on to plan B, which is why she has Charity with her: have her foster daughter drug Emily and then take her place at the wedding.

But some things go wrong anyway: Charity has a strange obsession with her only living sister. Charity kills Sean because he makes Emily unhappy and then kills Dante, presumably out of jealousy. That wasn’t part of Linda’s plan. Meanwhile, Stephanie, the only witness of Dante’s murder, is accused of killing him and is placed under house arrest.

After this also gets out of hand and both Emily and Stephanie escape, Linda’s only plan is to use Emily’s son, Nicky, as leverage and kill them both.

Okay, can you explain Another Simple Favor’s ending?

We can try! The big showdown happens on the cliffs, which we are shown at least eight times during the course of the movie. This is where the characters’ fates are sealed.
