The Season 2 stakedrop of decentralized ETH re-staking protocol, EigenLayer, will distribute 86 million EIGEN tokens to stakers, operators, ecosystem partners, and community members.
EigenLayer Launches Season 2 Stakedrop
EigenLayer has announced the launch of its Season 2 stakedrop, distributing its native EIGEN tokens to key contributors across its ecosystem. This latest initiative aims to reward stakers, operators, ecosystem partners, and community members who have played pivotal roles in the platform’s growth.
The stakedrop will distribute a total of 86 million EIGEN tokens across three primary categories: Stakers & Operators, Ecosystem Partners, and Community Members. Each group will receive allocations based on their contributions to the EigenLayer ecosystem.
Distribution Categories: Stakers & Operators
Approximately 70 million EIGEN tokens, representing 4.2% of the platform’s fully diluted value (FDV), will be allocated to participants who actively staked or operated nodes during Season 2. The EigenLayer team announced that eligible participants will be able to claim their tokens on or before September 17, 2024, through EigenLayer’s claims portal. Rewards are based on a staker’s pro-rata share of ETH hours, with no floor set to prevent Sybil attacks.
Distribution Categories: Ecosystem Partners
The announcement also revealed that a separate allocation of up to 10 million EIGEN tokens (0.6% FDV) will be distributed to key contributors such as Actively Validated Services (AVSs), Layer 2 Rollups (LRTs), Rollups-as-a-Service (RaaS) providers, and other ecosystem partners to recognize the contributions made by partners to bolster EigenLayer’s decentralized infrastructure. Claims for this category will also open on or before September 17, 2024, through the claims portal.
Distribution Categories: Community Members
Furthermore, EigenLayer also revealed that it would allocate around 6 million EIGEN tokens (0.35% FDV) to early advocates, contributors, and open-source projects. Eligible community members must verify their social identities through the platform’s verification process by September 11, 2024, before claims go live. Contributions made before April 1 or August 15, 2024, will determine eligibility for these rewards.
LRT Protocols and Token Allocation
For LRT protocol participants, EigenLayer emphasized that the reward allocation process will be consistent with other stakers and operators. Each LRT protocol will manage the distribution of its claimed EIGEN tokens on behalf of its community, with participants directed to engage with their respective protocols for further details on the claim process.
Supporting Ethereum’s Ecosystem
In addition to rewarding contributors, EigenLayer will allocate a portion of its EIGEN tokens to support Ethereum’s L1 ecosystem. The Protocol Guild, a key contributor to Ethereum’s infrastructure, will receive an allocation to continue its work in maintaining Ethereum’s network integrity. This further reinforces EigenLayer’s commitment to the broader blockchain ecosystem.
By incentivizing participation through EIGEN token rewards, EigenLayer aims to strengthen its position as a leading provider of decentralized, cryptoeconomic security and open innovation within the Ethereum ecosystem.
