Selena Gomez is promoting the fourth season of Only Murders in the Building, in which she plays the host of a true crime podcast alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short. Mercifully she will not be participating in the method dressing thing and will therefore not be photographed with blood-shot eyes and a cigarette clamped between her fingers. See: whoever this is.
The musician, actor, and makeup mogul last night posed at the show’s Los Angeles premiere in a halter-neck Self-Portrait minidress cut from twinkling bouclé, a shrobed blazer, and some crystal-embellished stilettos. “The modern woman is ready for the return of sexy,” said Self-Portrait designer Han Chong of his most recent Resort collection. “No more of that quiet luxury… I have to make my clothes photogenic, which means I have to manoeuvre some of the sequins in different directions so that they catch the light and sparkle of camera flashes.”
In other words: sometimes all it takes is a glistening LBD to capture attention. It’s also something that celebrities like Blake Lively and Jenna Ortega—who are currently dressing in “You get it?” florals and school-girl uniforms in explicit homage to their leading roles in It Ends With Us and Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, respectively—might soon realize. An IYKYK reference is fun, but as Selena Gomez knows, few things come close to a sweet dress, well made.
