Based on the long-running Broadway musical—which originally starred Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel—Wicked is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz focusing on the unlikely friendship between prissy Galinda (Grande) and the very green, very misunderstood Elphaba (Erivo), before they became the respective “good” and “wicked” witches we know from Oz. The original Broadway production—which opened in 20023—scored three Tony Awards, seven Drama Desk Awards, and a Grammy Award for its original cast recording.

The films are directed by Jon M. Chu, with the part one arriving in theaters November 24, 2024, and part two in theaters November 26, 2025.
