Retaining Your Identity in Motherhood

According to a recent Barna study, a lot of moms feel pressure:

  • 95% of mothers said they want to do better in at least one area of their lives.
  • 80% say they feel stressed.
  • 62% say they are dissatisfied with their work/life balance.
  • 56% say they are overcommitted.

Many moms feel riddled with guilt. Author Alli Worthington researched “mommy guilt” and found that the number one trigger was social media. Online influencers give tips on feeding children “properly,” keeping a home clean, being a fun mom, and fostering a thriving marriage and relationship with God. Moms see others who seem to have it all together and wonder why their own lives aren’t perfectly put together.

Alli is with me on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly to encourage moms in their calling, to refute mommy-myths, and to offer suggestions for healthy mommy habits.

Our conversation covers these topics:

  • Why modern motherhood is broken. Alli describes how to escape the comparison trap of perfect parenting.
  • Why happy mothering starts with being a happy mother. To be the best mother you can be, start by taking care of your own well being.
  • Mom myths that mothers hear that don’t come from God’s Word.
  • Why even good moms can’t do it all.
  • How to build a good life and household with healthy habits.
  • Why happiness in parenting starts with a happy marriage.
  • The secret art to confident motherhood. Alli shares how mom guilt can be dispelled by internalizing how God sees you.
